Why Now?
In one form or another, the Virginia National Guard has served in every one of its country’s conflicts, including the French and Indian War, which took place before the United States existed. From the Revolutionary War through the Civil War to World Wars, the Cold War, and today’s contemporary missions, Virginia National Guard units have served with character and distinction as part of the U. S. Armed Forces.
The Virginia National Guard was ready when COVID-19 endangered their communities and when our nation’s Capitol Building urgently needed protection. For centuries, they have proven ready to protect and defend safety and liberty for all both at home and abroad. We must work together to ensure that the world knows their stories, because our freedoms endure at great costs.
The Perfect Location
The perfect location is waiting adjacent to the Virginia War Memorial overlooking the James River in Richmond, Virginia.
Education, Research, and Training
The new museum will also house a Center for Education, Research, and Training that will enhance troop performance, invest in future leaders’ civic commitments, and empower everyone to understand the past to forge a safer and more equitable America for today and tomorrow.
Under One Roof
Under one roof, we will tell the stories of three flags—America, Virginia, and the National Guard—flying together to assure liberty and justice for all.
